Publisher Note
Derek Stroup’s SOFT COVERS series explores language and form by removing all traces of titles, authors names and descriptions from the front covers of vintage, soft cover paperback books, leaving only abstracted graphics and perplexing images. The lack of words in Stroup’s works also highlight the physical conditions of the used paperbacks, revealing their past histories through abrasions, creases and color loss left by readers, allowing for other possible narratives and references.
