The Opening is a reader for the project Les Archives Suédoises, initiated by Swedish artists Anna Ekman and Cecilia Järdemar around a hidden photographic archive consisting of historical glass plate negatives photographed by Swedish missionaries in the Belgian Congo 1890–1930. Together with Congolese sculptor Freddy Tsimba and a group of students at the Institute National des Arts in Kinshasa they explore a neglected part of both Swedish and Congolese history by re-working and re-interpreting the archive.
